As part of their commitment to The CatWalk Trust's 2010 New York Marathon effort; team members Catriona Williams; Johnny Griffith and Tundy Petrie are hosting the first ever WAIRAPATHON in Masterton.
Taking the form of a triathlon event; individuals or teams of three will compete in a swim, run and bike - complete with an after party at Copthorne Solway Park.... "A NIGHT IN THE BIG APPLE"
All proceeds from the Wairapathon go directly towards
research for a cure for spinal cord injury.

NOTES TO COMPETITORS:

We recommend bikers and runners wear shorts as numbering system for all competitors will be by pen on lower left limb.

Junior (under 18) Individuals can enter the Individual section for $50.00

We have a team of 3 wheelchairs entered as well as an amputee so just contact us with any special request to ensure completion and we will endeavor to support you!
WAIRAPATHON COURSE DESCRIPTION
LONG COURSE – RED Apples
-
Police Escort as you depart from the Copthorne Hotel, across State Highway 2 into South Belt and down Manaia Road.
-
Go past Air New Zealand - Masterton’s Domestic Airport, to the very end of Manaia Road and turn right into the Martinborough/Masterton Road.

Ride along until you reach Lees Pakaraka and turn left.

Ride right to the very end where you turn left into the Masterton/Stronvar Road.
-
Turn left at a sharp bend in the road into Watsons road and follow this through until the very end where you turn left onto the Masterton/Castlepoint Road. This automatically turns into Te Ore Ore Road.

You’re heading into town now…go across the bridge, past the Masterton Hospital and turn left at Blair Street and right at the Colin Pugh Sports Bowl.

This is where you handover to your swimmer who will run across the sports bowl up towards Opaki Road (State Highway 2).

You run around the footpath on the left-hand side of the road where the road will be signposted and marshalled for you to cross over the road en route to the swimming pool.

You’ll be directed to which pool you’re swimming in. Swim the required lengths and run back to the Colin Pugh Sports Bowl followong the marshall's guidance.

You then handover to your runner who will run along the river bank down towards Henley Lake.

You’ll go under the overpass for safety reasons, this is compulsory and then all the way around the right handside of Henley Lake.

At the far side of Henley lake you’ll turn right onto the Masterton/Castlepoint Road and then right again at Watsons Road until you reach the turning point. Marshalls will be there to guide you and note that you reached the turning point.

You then follow the same route back to Henley Lake and continue around the Lake and exit at the main gate entry for cars.

Follow the footpath along the left-hand side and go under the overpass as guided by marshalls and then along the banks towards the finish.

Your final section will be along the bank on the left-hand side of the Sports Bowl and then down the 100m straight to finish. WELL DONE.
SHORT COURSE – GREEN Apples

Follow this all the way to Colombo Street where you turn right.

Follow this until the very end where left onto the Masterton/Castlepoint Road. This automatically turns into Te Ore Ore Road.

Go past the Masterton Hospital and turn left at Blair Street and right at the Colin Pugh Sports Bowl. This is where you handover to your swimmer who will run across the sports bowl up towards Opaki Road (State Highway 2) .
